RAAF Townsville
DEFENCE PROJECT
Ashburner Francis served as the main building services consultants for the addition of four new Chinook helicopter shelters.
Mechanical works included the provision of humidified air via port ducts and connection for the engine and cabin of the helicopters whilst in the shelter. The electrical works included two new transformers and switchboards, the provision of 400 Hz power, and the specification of birdproof area lights in the shelter area as bird roosting within the space were a concern to all previous shelters on site. With a project cost of approximately $70 million, this grand-scale project highlights the intricacies required for the successful completion of Government Defence projects.
