QLD Country Bank Stadium

As at 2024, this stadium was the largest new Queensland stadium built in the last 15 years. Ashburner Francis delivered design documentation for electrical, mechanical and communication services.

Anthony Leonardi, Major Projects Representative Stadiums Queensland, described our work as follows: “Ashburner Francis engineers are skilled, agile and efficient. They navigate challenges and would be a welcome addition to any complex stadium or sports complex.”

Home to the North Queensland Cowboys, the QLD Country Bank Stadium seats 25,000 and functions as a multi-purpose stadium with a construction cost of $318 million.

Built by BESIX Watpac, the stadium won the 2020 North Queensland Master Builders Project of the Year Award.

The stadium was put to the test in 2021 when a COVID outbreak forced the hosting of the State of Origin to be moved from Melbourne to the new North Queensland location. After a successful orchestration, the stadium has since been used to host multiple NRL finals and other high-profile sporting matches, providing a significant boost to Townsville’s tourism infrastructure.
