Queensland Country Bank Stadium
SPORT PROJECT
Ashburner Francis was introduced to provide building services for what was to become the new home of the North Queensland Cowboys, a 25,000 seat, multi-purpose stadium with a construction cost of $250 million.
Built by Besix Watpac and completed in 2020, the stadium won the North Queensland Project of the Year Award.
The stadium was put to the test in 2021 when a COVID outbreak forced the hosting of the State of Origin to be moved from Melbourne to the new North Queensland location. After a successful orchestration, the stadium has since been used to host multiple NRL finals and other high-profile sporting matches, providing a significant boost to Townsville’s tourism and infrastructure.
